Prison Chronicles is a platform to share the creative collaborations between Inmate #J0XXX1 (Samuel) and his pen pal Magida.
Hello!
Prison Chronicles officially turns one today :)
Samuel wanted to share a quick message with you all… sorry Samuel, I had to leave the ending in there. It’s a perfect example of how awkward he always gets.
Write Samuel a Letter
We would love to hear how Samuel’s story affected you. We are collecting letters from our readers to share with his rehabilitation support group. Click this link here to submit your letter. Any letters short or long is much appreciated.
What I’ve been up to?
Most of you probably don’t know that I’m a photographer... that’s my main thing. Some of my larger projects have been traveling to the Middle East to document my father’s village, driving across America, and my continuous exploration of the “self”.

Many of these projects were supported by the city and their funding towards the arts. So, once again, i’ve applied for two grants in hopes that one will support the next phase of my project with Samuel. This winter/spring I will be going to Los Angeles to take photos that will go alongside Samuel’s story. With the content I capture, I am planning an exhibition and book to finalize “Dear Samuel,” (Samuel and my story) and I will be taking you guys through this journey of the end.
Although this project will eventually come to an end, we will be continuing to support the men by providing them with a platform to share their updates. This publication will likely evolve into a monthly edition sharing the men’s latest news.
Prison Chronicles is also focusing on more "in-person" activities. We’ll be appearing on a couple of podcasts, collaborating with schools and facilities to promote rehabilitation, and pushing more creative initiatives. We’re excited to see where this crazy little project leads us.
Lastly, I can’t express enough gratitude to those who have supported this project over the past year:
K. For your continuous generosity and spiritual guidance towards Samuel and the other men inside
M. For the generous donation towards the project
G&R. For continuous law advice, and hiring some of these guys to do custom art
J. For bringing Samuel’s story to your High School students
J. For your help with all of the design work for Undertakers and future projects
C&M For being a friend to Samuel <3
… And all of you who have been following our journey!!
Magida & Samuel
See yah, when we see yah.
