Prison Chronicles is a platform to share the creative collaborations between Inmate #J0XXX1 (Samuel) and his pen pal Magida.
Hello old friends, and welcome to our new followers! Many of you have reached out to check in and asking where we’ve been. We’re still here, we’re doing well, and we’ve just been very busy!
Over the past few months, I’ve been focusing all my energy on working toward Samuel’s freedom. A wonderful nonprofit organization took us on last year, and we’ve been working hard with a team on Samuel’s rehabilitation and hopefully his freedom. In fact, things are going so well that, for the first time in 25 years, Samuel will be transferring from a Level 4 maximum-security prison to a Level 3. And all while being in General Population. I mention this last part, because it’s actually quite difficult with the lack of support from the prison to get your points low enough to make this happen. I am so incredibly proud of him.
We’re currently working on two petitions (a few more to come) to hopefully bring him back to court:
- The Racial Justice Act
- The Felony Murder Rule
We need your help, though.
We’re asking for character support letters from you. If you’re able, please take the reference below, add your own personal voice to it, and send it to prisonchroniclesproject@gmail.com. Your support is crucial if Samuel ever gets the opportunity to get back in court.
You have all played a significant role in his rehabilitation, whether you realize it or not. This is your chance to show him how much of an impact he’s had on you personally.
Thank you so much for your continued support.

To whom it may concern:
My name is ___________ and I am writing to express my support for Samuel Garcia, an inmate at your institution. I’ve had the opportunity to learn about Samuel’s story through an online publication called Prison Chronicles where he shares his life experiences and how he ended up incarcerated.
Samuel’s story has impacted me in the following ways:
Thank you for taking time to read my support, and I hope his character and progress will be considered. I am confident of Samuel’s dedication towards positive change, and seeing him get a second chance at life would mean the world to many of us who believe in him.
Sincerely,
What else?
A couple of months ago, our community raised nearly $800 in just 48 hours to support a friend’s loved one, Robert, in preparing for his immediate release. After spending 31 years in prison, Robert was granted parole, and your generosity provided him with everything he needed to begin his new life. Thanks to you, he received clothing, toiletries, work gear, and even a tablet to help ease his transition.
Thank you, Prison Chronicles supporters—you truly moved him to tears with your kindness and support.
I’ll leave you with some art from our friend Juan inside. (photos are cropped, click here to view them full size)
